1. Passion Pit … Gossamer … 2012

If Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs focused more on melody than on percussion, she might sound a bit like Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit. Gorgeous pop with falsetto male vocals and intricate, sugary beats deals with subjects as heavy as immigration, alcoholism, economic disparity, suicide, mental illness, drugs, and domestic abuse. Best New Music on Pitchfork!

  2. Lucero … Women & Work … 2012

Great, great new album from one of the hardest working rock bands around. Dirty and loud enough to fill up every dive bar in Tennessee.

  3. Amy Ray … Lung of Love … 2012

The fourth solo offering from this Indigo Girl is temperate but lively. Narrative and thoughtful, with more of an edge than her more famous work, this album is a pretty appealing mix of Springsteen, Elton John and well…the Indigo Girls. Nothing revolutionary, but quite pleasant.

  4. Pond … Beard, Wives, Denim … 2012

Fuzzy retro rock, like a slower version of The Love Language. Amazing riffs + fueled vocals + punk aesthetics = sweet nostalgia.

  5. Delta Spirit … Delta Spirit … 2012

Delta Spirit is one of the premiere indie alt-rock/alt-country bands out there. This record is way more loud and intense but the heartbreak and harmonics are still in abundance. Devour this one!
