If Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs focused more on melody than on percussion, she might sound a bit like Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit. Gorgeous pop with falsetto male vocals and intricate, sugary beats deals with subjects as heavy as immigration, alcoholism, economic disparity, suicide, mental illness, drugs, and domestic abuse. The fourth solo offering from this Indigo Girl is temperate but lively. Narrative and thoughtful, with more of an edge than her more famous work, this album is a pretty appealing mix of Springsteen, Elton John and well…the Indigo Girls. Nothing revolutionary, but quite pleasant.
