Dirty Projectors + Bjork … Mount Wittenberg Orca … 2011

With a collaboration like this you’d know it would have to be off the deep end of sonic bizarreness. And they don’t disappoint there. Mostly acoustic and vocally experimental in that Dirty Projectors sort of way, the album can sound some what formulaic and one sided. But if you like either of these artists and don’t mind a little restraint, you’ll be pleased.

Bombay Bicycle Club … A Different Kind of Fix … 2011

Somewhere between rock and electonica, BBC’s rhythms are freaking catchy! I’ve been listening to the first track on repeat for a couple weeks straight. Definitely recommended.

M83 … Hurry Up We’re Dreaming … 2011

Don’t let the length of this album intimidate you. It’s an explosion of shoegazey dreampop all the way through. The album works best as one cohesive unit. It is a trip to the moon in slow motion. Recommended!

Purity Ring … Shrines … 2012

This is one of the strongest, most self-assured debut albums I’ve ever heard. Young band (formed in 2010) with young members: Corin Roddick is 21, Megan is 24. Lush production is futuristic and and pristine. Voice is auto-tuned to the gills, almost otherworldly. Try this out.

Aleks Girshevich Trio … Tomorrow … 2012

Pre-teen prodigy drummer, the son of Vlad Girshevik, the piano player. This is gorgeous jazz, with just piano, bass, and drums.
